Some rabbits, especially strays, can be infected with a cuterebra maggot. You can tell these maggots when you seem an inflamed area with a round hole. 
Here you can see the maggot coming partially out of the hole. They use the hole to breathe. 
Do NOT attempt to remove the cuterebra maggot yourself. If it breaks then the toxins will send your rabbit into anaphylactic shock and kill him. Make an appointment with your veterinarian. 
Your veterinarian will carefully remove the maggot. 
The maggot has been succesfully removed! This one was about 2cm long. 
The wound is often infected and usually antibiotics and follow up care are necessary.
