About the Bunny Slave...

Hi.

At this point, you may have already read some of Noelle's journals and are wondering if her owner is a total fruitcake.

I may be a little nuts, but I did start helping Noelle with the typing solely for having some cutesy article to attract folks to our rescue page each month.

Note: I said "helping Noelle with the typing".

When I started the journals, Noelle was a newcomer to my home, and I was really wondering if things were going to work out between us. Noelle is, after all, a very headstrong little bun, you see. You may have noticed this from some of her entries.

The way I started to write the articles, I felt I would be removed and just write some cutesy observation about my pet.

Needless to say, because I started working on my perception skills, I started to understand where my pet was coming from a bit better. I was able to really pay attention to what she likes, and what she doesn't, and I started to work on the reasons why she behaved in particular ways for different situations.

As the months passed, I found that I was learning more about my little pet. Because of the journals, I started watching for things in her little world that might make a good journal article. As a result, I started really viewing the world through her eyes. She may not have all the real details of the articles, but I do think that the general jist of it is really comes from her.

What's really fun is looking back on the articles to see how little I knew about her at the beginning. Also, I've been able to see how my relationship with my pet has grown over this first year together. As we increase our experiences together, we increase the strength of our bond.

My Noelle has become so much more affectionate as the months passed. It's hard to believe that the distant little bun who entered my home has turned into such an affectionate beggar. I think of our most recent article at the time of this writing On Giving Thanks... and I really think that my Noelle, also known as "The Pea", is grateful for the life she's found with us.

Trust and a relationship with a pet take time. One valuable thing from these journals is that it reminds me that a close and affectionate relationship with a pet happens gradually, over a fairly long period of time. Think of this if you are having bonding problems with your new pet.

So, think of me what you will. Writing the journals for Noelle is a real treat...for both of us.

Marge Shinkle

P.S. A very special thanks to Esther Bunny and her person for being the inspiration for Noelle's journals.
