A Hot, Cross Bun
July 1997

The summer is a tough time for a bunny. We are such "sensitive" creatures... at least when it comes to heat. My people would never, in a million years, label me as being sensitive about anything else.

To put it simply: I am a real grouch.
Add a couple of 90 degree days, and watch out!

Mom has tried using the usual frozen water bottles, but they make my fur all wet, which is totally unacceptable for me.

She worries about me getting too hot, but we *are* in New England. This summer was not all that bad and there were only a couple of days that were really hot.

It is very easy for us bunnies to get overheated in the summertime. We haven't got an air conditioner, so my cage has been moved away from the sunny location I enjoyed in the winter and spring. It is now near a nice, open window on the cooler Northern side of the house. No sunbeams, but, hey, when it's 90 degrees out there, I really don't care.

On the hot, sunny days, I get my own fan. So, I stretch out and let the cool air blow acroos my fur.

As for being cross... yes, I get very cranky when they want to pet me, or touch me in any way when it's really hot out. I'm busy shedding right now anyway. Though, I suppose it's really nice when they start helping me get rid of some of that excess fur flying around the place...
