| Oh,
the summer garden is a wonderful thing!
I don't know if you know this or not, but I am a very picky eater. I'm not sure why, but veggies are just not a big thing with me. (See previous issue about my sugar and chocolate cravings...) So, I have been known to turn up my nose at even the most popular bunny treats. I won't touch parsley, or carrot tops, or whole bunches of other bunny yummies. Even when I do find something acceptable, I tend to just pick at it in very small quantities. This drives mom nuts because a lot of the stuff she buys at the grocery store for me goes bad before I will eat it. Enter the summer garden. This is a wonderful compromise for both of us. I am even willing to share with the people, providing I get my daily treats. This summer's garden includes a couple of planned treats, and a couple of accidental weeds which are just working out wonderfully. Mom planted collard greens, romaine lettuce, and carrots - oh, and tomatoes and green pepper, but who cares about that stuff. Every day I get 3 or 4 tender young leaves off those collards (I never touched the stuff from the grocery store) and a baby carrot and some nasturtium flower leaves (those are *really* yummy) and for a while, the lettuce, before it started going to seed and got all bitter. The nasturtium flowers leaves were a surprise, and so were the lemon flavored weeds that grew around the veggies. I also get dandelion greens. The variety is great, because I really hate eating a lot of the same stuff. So, I highly recommend you get your people to plant this kind of stuff for you. It seems pretty easy for them, and it's a lot easier than getting them to go to the grocery store all the time. This was Mom's first attempt at most of it, and she seemed to do OK. I grunt a "thank you" every morning and night when I get my treat. Then I tell them to back away from my food. It's all mine. Healthy eating to you all...
