Rescue a Retired Easter Bunny!

September brings a special time for children, back to school time. Yet with this time of year also means a sad time for many rabbits- time to find a new home. September is a busy month for people giving up their pet rabbits, and because of this, the House Rabbit Network foster homes have reached their capacity.

Currently, the House Rabbit Network has many adorable, intelligent bunnies up for adoption of all breeds, sizes, and ages. Sadly, many people purchase bunnies in pet stores for Easter, and give them up after their children have tired of them. Or, worse yet, the pet stores mis-sex the bunnies, increasing the overpopulation problem that already exists. For example, HRN has two litters of adorable lop eared bunnies from one family. They purchased what they thought were two female rabbits at the pet store. Low and behold, the female had babies. Since the family was unaware that females can become pregnant immediately, the bunny had another litter. Both litters are in the care of the House Rabbit Network's foster homes. The older litter is currently spayed or neutered and up for adoption. The younger litter will be up for adoption in the coming weeks.

Another pair of retired Easter bunnies that are up for adoption are Jasmine and Felix. They are a spayed and neutered bonded pair that have been living in a foster home waiting for a new home for over two years. They are a very energetic and inquisitive pair when they are out -- racing, spinning, and investigating. In their cage they love cardboard chew toys and tons of fresh hay. They should be placed in a home with no or older children, have a roomy cage to live in, and a sizeable play area for supervised out-time. They have great litterbox habits. Jasmine and Felix deserve to be the center of attention in their own home.

Please consider adopting one of the other wonderful bunnies at HRN. This will ease the burden placed on foster homes with the influx of this year's retired Easter bunnies, and you will give a deserving bunny a new home. If enough bunnies are adopted out, HRN can take more from the shelters, thus saving even more lives. It can't be done without your help!
