Hidden Holiday Dangers for your House RabbitFor Immediate ReleaseThe House Rabbit network would like to remind everyone to be extra careful this holiday season. As you begin putting the final touches on your holiday decorations, and the last bow on the wrapped present, take a step back and look to see what holiday treats can be threats to you bunny. Decorations on your Christmas Tree, such as wires on the lights, shiny garland, hangers for your ornaments, and glass ornaments themselves are a danger. Products containing lead, such as wire garland, and even some bows and wrapping papers, can be a holiday hazard. Bunnies love to explore and find new things, so the best way to bunny proof is to get on your hands and knees and see what your bun sees. Even your lovely pine Christmas tree can become deadly if it has been sprayed with pesticides or fire retardants. Ask before you buy. In addition to decorating hazards, many foodstuffs can be hazardous to your bunny's health. Some examples of poisonous items are: amaryllis bulbs, bittersweet, black walnut hulls, eucalyptus, hemlock, holly berries, horse chestnut, juniper, macadamia nut, mistletoe berries, narcissus bulbs, nutmeg, walnuts, poinsettia, oak, sweet potato and yew. View a complete list of poisonous foodstuffs and plants. The House Rabbit Network would also like to remind you that we have many wonderful bunnies of all shapes, sizes, colors, and personalities that would love a home for the Holidays.
