Minutes of HRN Meeting of February 10, 2008

Suzanne called the meeting to order @ 1:15 P.M.

Attendees: Tricia, Tommy, Katie, Shannon, Helena, John, Liz, Diane, Maysoon, Erica, Andy, Linda, Emily, Bill, Corinna, Candace

Last years adoptions totals – 137 – an average year

This year we have 28 adoptions so far, a much better pace

We currently have 12 foster homes where rabbits are placed.

Our current issue of the Newsletter is going to the printer this week and should be released/mailed this coming weekend.  Members are urged to start sending in articles ASAP for our next issue.  We are trying to have a balance of medical, behavioral and feel good articles in each issue.

Treasury report – we are financially sound and doing well!  Members are encouraged to refer people to HRN for bunny sitting, since all such services benefit HRN 100%.  We collected almost $2,300.00 last year from this service!  See Shannon Cail if you would like to get involved further.

Website report - Almost 1 million hits so far!  Averaging 600 hits per day, which is good.  Liz Orenstein reported that her husband, Matt, was working on a new “mockup” of a new website look for HRN.  Shannon has been keeping Petfinder in sync with our site, while Nicole has been doing the same with Pets 911.  As a reminder to members, there is an internal website for members only, as well as the public website.

Hotline report - Our hotline continues to be active and we currently have adequate member coverage.

Membership – Our growth was slow last year, only 2 new members. Members are encouraged to recruit new people that they think might be interested.  We’ve also added a membership option to the adoption contract which should help as well.

Fundraising - Yankee Candle Fundraiser is starting and runs through March 15.  Tricia Hart brought materials for all members to take home with them.  Our Flatbreads fundraiser was a big success again this year.  Suzanne is looking for additional help in seeking donations for next year’s event.  Diane requested that we drop the “Chinese auction” terminology from our flyers and web postings in regard to this fundraiser, as it may offend some people.

Ed Events – Diane reported that we are looking for any location near a “T” stop in the greater Boston area.  Currently trying to line up more summer events.

Plymouth Rescue update – all quiet the past several weeks.  34 rabbits total rescues from this location.  Local authorities were notified of a nearby breeder who may have been “dumping” rabbits, so hopefully this will keep things quiet there for a bit.

Easter is 6 weeks away! – Members are encouraged to get in contact with their local publications to get publicity for HRN at this “bunny” time of year.

Blog – Members are encouraged to post articles or send along any descriptions or stories about currently adoptable HRN bunnies.  These can be turned into postings quite easily!

Shaw’s Receipts – Keep them coming!  Send any cash register receipts from Shaw’s Supermarkets to HRN.  We receive 1% of the total of all receipts submitted.  We have generated over $200.00 in income already!

Stray Bunny “Manager” – Suzanne is looking for someone to volunteer to coordinate the calls we get in regards to strays that need to be rescued.  Please call Suzanne if interested.

My Space Page – it is doing well.  Also a new site BunnySpace is online.  Andy & Erica gave positive feedback in this website.  Members are urged to check it out.

Contests - Petfinder is running a contest monthly and each month, one shelter is elected to win a  $5000.00 donation.  Members are encouraged to visit the site and enter daily (which is allowed).  Bissell Carpet Cleaners is also sponsoring a pet photo contest with a $10,000.00 prize to the winner.  HRN members will be sending in new pictures each week, so please vote each week for the HRN bunnies!

The HRN Board of Directors – Suzanne, Shannon & Diane, were reelected unanimously!

Emily is speaking at the Boston Vegetarian Society function at the Grasshopper restaurant in Boston next weekend.  Members are welcome to attend!
