January 29, 2006

Attendance: Kathy, Ahsan, Shannon, Jessica, Cornelia, Cheryl A., Melinda, Linda, Joan, Helena, Erica, Rachel, Peter, Liz, Katherine, Bruce, Tricia, Tommy, Cherryl R., Suzanne, Diane

Discussion:

Adoptions: There were 110 adoptions in 2005, down from previous years. One possibility: more groups are using Petfinder. We need to increase HRN's visibility. A suggestion was to put new pictures/descriptions of long-term buns on the site. On the plus side, the shelters haven't asked us to take as many rabbits.

Ed. Days: We did 27 in 2005. Help is always needed. Hopefully more people will become experienced so as to lighten the load on the current regulars. Tricia has done an excellent job with in-store displays in the north shore area.

Newsletter: We are still producing three copies a year, thanks to Christine, Shannon and Kathy. The Winter issue should be out within the next two weeks. Articles are always needed and are due by May 15 for the next issue.

Membership Renewals: Due in April. Membership has shown a steady increase of 20-30 a year, with 115 current members. Adoption follow-ups have been sent out encouraging membership, but response has been mixed.

Financial Status: We have $67,000 in the bank. Katherine is the new treasurer.

Web Site: Has averaged 450 visitoe per day (1500 page hits) and seems to be the way most people find out about us. We also have a site just for members (rabbitnetwork.org/members). Email Suzanne if you need the access information.

Bun Sitting: No totals were available for last year, but it usually brings in $2-3,000 per year. Dawn Nichols continues to handle coordinating duties.

Hotline: Duties are currently handled by six people. New help is always appreciated, and training is available.

Press Releases/Publicity: Rachel has agreed to write press releases. Putting out one per month seems to work well. Everyone should contact their local paper for the pre-Easter campaign. We haven't had any luck so far with contacting t.v. stations. Liz has agreed to look into advertising on the MBTA. Erica will try to get an article published in the Metro, a free Boston paper.

Make Mine Chocolate: Kathy King will coordinate again this year. We will concentrate on Veterinary Hospitals rather than stores for sales. We will try to use our own Easter flyer as much as possible. Contacting clergy and schools to get the message out is a possibility.

Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month: As part of the Feb. promotion, an anonymous donor has agreed to cover the adoption donation if an HRN volunteer adopts a rabbit that has been in foster care for more than 6 months. A bonus will be paid for a predetermined set of rabbits.

Volunteer Opportunities: Suzanne and Cherryl can always use cage cleaning help!

Fund Raising: Erica has agreed to hold a yard sale; date TBD.

Donated cages can be sold on Craigs List.

Shannon and Kathy have worked on CafePress promotions "I'm Dreaming of a White Bunny" and "Love is in the Hare".

Cherryl will be hosting an upcoming fund raising meeting, time and date TBD. We need people to attend! Some possibilities: rubber duck race in conjunction with two other non-profits, Tupperware, raffle.

Board Elections: The board remains the same: Suzanne, Cherryl and Diane.
