Job Opening: Part Time Shelter Veterinarian

Location: House Rabbit Network Shelter in Westford, MA

Pay: $70-$95 / hr

Are you passionate about animal welfare and looking for hands-on experience caring for rabbits? House Rabbit Network (HRN), New England’s largest rabbit rescue, is seeking a dependable, compassionate veterinarian to join our team to provide health care for the rabbits at our shelter in Westford, MA. 

About the Role:

Initially the role will involve setting up the shelter for clinic use, including getting the state license, purchasing equipment and other necessary supplies. Once

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Health and wellness exams on our rabbits
  • Hold the drug license for our shelter
  • Maintain stock of prescription medicines
  • Provide medical care as needed
  • Spay and neuter HRN rabbits
  • Other basic surgeries as needed
  • Create and maintain protocols
  • Run RHD vaccine clinics

Additional Duties May Include:

  • Working with other veterinarians to promote rabbit education
  • Work with HRN staff and volunteers training on medical needs
  • Working towards expanding clinic capabilities

Physical Requirements:

  • Comfortable working in a cleaning-intensive and animal-focused environment
  • Willingness to handle rabbits with care and attention

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with rabbits required
  • Reliable transportation to and from Westford, MA
  • Commitment to humane, respectful treatment of all animals
  • Willingness to collaborate on rabbit care

Job Opening: Shelter Manager (Full-Time)

Location: House Rabbit Network Shelter – Westford, MA
Hours: 40 hours/week, in-person
Schedule: 8-hour days, Monday–Friday
Compensation: $50-55k based on experience

House Rabbit Network (HRN), New England’s largest rabbit rescue, is seeking a hardworking, compassionate, and collaborative Shelter Manager to oversee the daily operations of our shelter in Westford, MA. This is a leadership role for someone who is passionate about animal welfare, is hands-on, and thrives in a team environment.

About the Role: As Shelter Manager, you’ll ensure the smooth operation of a shelter housing 40+ rescued rabbits. You’ll lead the day-to-day care of the rabbits, maintain a clean and organized facility, and work closely with volunteers to create a safe, welcoming space for animals and humans alike.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily shelter operations and rabbit care
  • Supervise rabbit health and intake procedures in coordination with medical and foster teams
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment including cage cleaning and general shelter upkeep
  • Coordinate and receive deliveries, including early Friday morning supply shipments
  • Manage facility needs, including compost drop-off and pick-up
  • Conduct quality record-keeping of rabbits and volunteers. 
  • Order supplies and keep detailed inventory
  • Collaborate with and support volunteers
  • Address interpersonal or performance issues with volunteers constructively and professionally
  • Report to and be supported by the HRN Board of Directors

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in animal care or shelter operations strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Reliable transportation and punctuality
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Willingness to bend, lift, clean cages, and do physical labor 
  • Must be comfortable managing a team and resolving challenges proactively
  • Passion for rabbit rescue and commitment to HRN’s mission
