Quarterly Report November 2025

Official / General

  • SEC filing has been submitted.
  • We hired a part time vet
  • Kerry decided to leave her per diem position. We hired Rechel to replace her.

Financials:

The October financial reports were provided separately including the Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activity comparative report vs 2024 results and net proceeds received through various fundraising activities.

Issues for discussion: HRN needs to open a deposit account with another banking institution because TD Bank currently is holding in excess of $371,000. The Premium Money Market account interest has been reduced from roughly 4% when the account was open to 2.47% recently.

Rockland Trust Bank (which has a branch in Westford) appears to be a good option.

Rockland Trust contributes to : Event Sponsorships for date-specific events to 501(c)(3) nonprofit and community-based organizations.

The amount of funds to be transferred from TD Bank to Rockland Trust will also need to be agreed upon. I will look into putting money into the CDs with rates between 3.3% – 3.9% with durations of 3, 6 and 9 months. Therefore, any large expenditures for the clinic in the next  6 – 9 months need to be established.

Here Is a fundraiser opportunity available through Zeffy:

Here’s how it works:

  1. Head to our Giving Tuesday Contest and enter your nonprofit’s name.
  2. Complete a few simple actions, like tagging your friends on our Facebook post to earn extra chances to win.
  3. Each completed action gives your nonprofit additional entries for the final $10,000 draw.

The challenge closes on December 1st at 11:59 pm EST. The winner will be announced on December 8th.

Adoptions

334 adoption as of 11/17/2025

Fundraisers

Condo Sponsorships: $2,600 – August 26th 2025 – November 18, 2025. There are currently 18 monthly donors at $50 each and 2 monthly donors at $100 each for a total of $1100 / month. The Condo Sponsorships are now being managed by volunteer Alyssa S who is a sponsor herself and is in close communication with Lauren. Alyssa visits the shelter monthly.

August Online Auction raised  $4952

Wicked Wares Auction raised  $3321

Our September Binky Bun Coffee collaboration wrapped with great results. Special thanks to Rachel M. for coordinating it once again. This year’s 25th Anniversary blend and matching mug were well received, and the collaboration raised $442 for HRN. We also launched our new “Name an HRN Bunny” campaign, which allows supporters to make a $350 donation at any time during the year to name one of our incoming rabbits. The first participant was a brand-new supporter who named a baby rabbit Bumper.

Planning continued throughout November for Winter Bunderland, which will be held on December 6th at the shelter. This event will feature custom bunny ornament painting, snuffle mats, local vendors, Photos with Santa, seasonal bunny photo sessions, a bake sale, and plenty of pawliday cheer. A “Fund a Need” tree will also be displayed prominently at the event with donation tags ranging from a $10 bale of hay to larger medical needs. This option will be available virtually after Giving Tuesday, along with printable acknowledgments that supporters can give as holiday gifts through the New Year.

Our Baby Bunny Snuggles events continue to be extremely popular. The October 26th session raised $1,505, and the November 8th session raised $1,560, for a combined total of $3,065 so far this season. Additional sessions are planned for November 30th at the shelter and December 7th at the new Hive Market indoor farmers market in Lowell.

Bunnies & Blooms was hosted at Rococo Floral in Somerville and raised $952 from snuggle spots and general appreciation for our work. Birch was adopted at this event, and another adopter is in the process of selecting their rabbit. This event also brought us an incredible new volunteer: Gwen L., who has already made a substantial impact organizing our clinic, assisting Dr. Seegars at wellness days, and fostering a bunny.

On November 1st, we hosted our very first Bond-a-thon, which turned out to be a major success and a fully sold-out event. Many rabbits arrived in two carriers and left in one, bonded and ready to go home together. Five volunteer bonders – Suzanne A., Paula S., Nikki L., Linnea P., and Rosie M. – provided bonding support for over six hours. Each bonder had a helper for the day, and Grace C. provided photos, videos, and real-time social media coverage. Tyler L. generously provided Dunkin and professional photos for attendees. The post-event feedback survey was very positive, and the event raised $2,035. We are already planning to host two Bond-a-thons next year, with the hope that increased bonding support will encourage more households with single rabbits to consider adopting companions.

Our annual 5K brought in [est. over $10,000], with final tallies still being reconciled. We also held a vaccine clinic on November 12th and raised $340 from nail trims, while all shelter rabbit vaccinations were donated generously by Exotic Pet Mobile Vet. Another clinic is scheduled for December 3rd. The Great Bun-kin Bash raised $555 from 15 sales. While the event was fun and enjoyed by participants, we were disappointed in the low turnout. Tiny Tiles Mosaics raised over $900 for HRN, and a check is currently on its way to us. Two flash auctions of donated tickets raised a combined $390.

Calendars are in! We increased the price to $20 and are committed to selling each and every copy. We have sold 212 (online, through our newsletter, and in person at various events) raising $5,221, including additional donations and shipping ($5/calendar).

As we move into December, our focus turns toward Giving Tuesday, Winter Bunderland, the virtual Fund a Need tree, our final Snuggles events of the year, the December vaccine clinic, and our wrap-up of year-end fundraising efforts.

We are also preparing to launch a new monthly online grief support group for pet loss. This program will be pay-what-you-can and led entirely by licensed volunteer practitioners, with no cost to HRN. They will develop a supportive framework that follows participants through the seasons and emotional stages of grief. To protect privacy, these sessions will not be recorded like our educational webinars.

Medical Bill Sponsors: These are announced and promoted through social media storytelling as well as our newsletters. We continue to share updated stories with the donation links to meet our goals.

Giving Tuesday: We are prepping for Giving Tuesday as we have a donor willing to match donations for an entire week – November 28th – December 5th. This will be an extremely important fundraising week that we urge the board to share, engage with, and promote!

Shelter

  • Daria S. is working to onboard new volunteers.
  • We have 3 part time employees working with a rotating schedule. Lauren works 1 day at the shelter, Amy M. works 2 days, Rachel L. works 2 days, and Jeanette D. works 2 days.
  • Lauren and Suzanne both work together to manage the shelter while we have been without a Shelter Manager for a little over 4 months.
  • We have identified a candidate for Shelter Manager. Checking references and then will likely make an offer
  • A camera system has been installed at the shelter. There is a monitor in the mezzanine, and rolling storage of events. Will be managed via an app
  • We need to work on a maintenance list and also general support for the shelter (access to thermostats, etc)

Clinic

  • We hired a part time vet. She has been doing wellness exams at the shelter every other week.
  • She has set up a vetcore account for us to purchase drugs
  • Working on setting up a DEA license. There were delays due to the government shutdown.
  • Starting to work on purchasing equipment for the shelter

Foster Homes

  • The foster committee welcomed Alycia G to the foster committee. She has jumped right in creating google signups, graphics and learning Petstablished. She is a great addition to the foster committee team.
  • Kari O is back helping with foster education as a limited role
  • The foster committee hosted a foster appreciation party on Oct 5th at the shelter.  We had a great turnout and it was fun to connect with fosters in person and play with bunnies. We had a table of donated items foster homes could take from, as well as 2 door prizes that Lauren put together from donations.  It was a great time to connect and we look forward to hosting another one in the future.
  • The Fostering committee hosted another in person workshop on November 15th..  Topics were based on a response from a poll that we posted in the foster home facebook group.  We taught nail trimming, what to have in an emergency kit and the heilich for bunnies. These are great hands-on opportunities to learn and connect. Each foster home received a small box filled with emergency supplies that were donated through an amazon wish list.  Lauren provided a door prize of donated items.
  • Foster committee and the adoption team collaborated to create protocols and guidelines for the requested test program “foster to adopt”.  An updated foster to adopt waiver is in process and we will be launching a limited trial soon.

Hotline

  • Everything is running smoothly on the hotline. We’ve had a new addition:
    • Maisie B. started in September
  • We have 13 volunteers (2 per day for every day except Sunday). I am currently training one new volunteer for Sunday, but it may be more work than she is able to do. We are very well-staffed and I do not need any additional volunteers even if this one doesn’t join.

Outreach, Volunteering & Events

    • Upcoming events:
      • Pet Rock Festival: 10/5 @ Lancaster Fairgrounds
        • Not a great event for us this year, unfortunately. It was poorly attended due to the heat and since we didn’t bring live rabbits with us (due to said heat and all the dogs in attendance), we had far less attention from passersby than usual.
      • Boston Veg Food Fest: 10/18 & 10/19 @ Reggie Lewis Athletic Center, Roxbury
        • Fantastic year at Veg Fest this year.
        • Collected $81 in cash donations and ~$30 in Zeffy.
  • Volunteers:
      •
  • Other outreach:
    • Monthly education series continues to go well. Classes/presenters have been very well received by attendees.
    • So far, the more niche the subject, the better attended the class is. Intent is to offer as many niche subjects as possible (e.g. E.C. for laypeople) and supplement with basics courses.
